Activity Synopsis (ID# 16569) (Hide Synopsis)

Objective(s) To help Serbian authorities finalise the draft of the Law on Managing of Seized Assets.
Output/Results The Serbian Authorities drafted first draft of the Law on Managing of Seized Assets at second quarter of the 2006. In August 2006 the Council of Europe hired Mr. Barry Dickinson to prepare a legal opinion of the draft law. Expertise was provided to the Serbian authorities at the beginning of the September 2006 when the experts round table was followed to discuses on draft law and recommendations prepared by the CoE expert. This legal opinion was presented and discussed in details during the round table meeting.
The working group members found the legal opinion and conclusions of the round table very useful as they clarified some open issues and filled some gaps in the draft law. The working group would finalise the draft law which would be presented to the Government before December 2006, depending on present political situation in Serbia.
Conclusions/Follow Up Serbian Authorities became aware of necessity for redrafting of the mentioned draft law. With the intentions to assist the Serbian authorities in this process, Project sent a working group of local experts to town of Becej between 27-30th of September 2006.
