Activity Synopsis (ID# 27498) (Hide Synopsis)

Objective(s) To consolidate the second implementation phase of the Emerald joint project as well as to review interim results and data delivery for Belarus, Moldova, the Russian Federation and Ukraine.
Output/Results The sub-regional workshop was the occasion for the 4 national teams to enter in a “group” dynamic, sharing information and adapting their respective results to the project’s needs. For instance, the teams reviewed their own lists of species to be mapped in 2010, in order to select the maximum number of common species and to produce a more complete sub-regional map. Participants were enthusiastic about the project developments, as now they feel they master its objectives and they start estimating its results. The relevance of the project and its smooth running were emphasised by the representative of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Natural Resources of the Russian Federation in her concluding remarks.
Conclusions/Follow Up The workshop was followed by a visit of Sebezh National Park, as well as of the Park's Education centre. The latter represents a good practice which deserves to be spread: the Park owns a small building in Sebezh city centre where it organises weekly activities for children and students, aiming at raising awareness on nature protection. The Park issues a weekly newspaper; it organises public competitions on environmental education; it published a manual on ecology with exercises and games for children; it produced an interactive CD for teachers (see attached).
Participants Representatives of the Ministries of Environment Protection and Natural Resources of Moldova and of the Russian Federation, the Emerald team leaders from Belarus, Moldova, the Russian Federation and Ukraine, the Emerald team from the Russian Federation
