Objective(s) The workshop aimed at reviewing the scientific work initiated in 2009 and consolidated in 2010 as well as launching of the final year of implementation of the Joint Programme in Moldova.
Output/Results After a welcoming and opening session, a review of the Moldova database delivered up to December 2010 was done. Clear milestones and timetable were decided with the team for the final delivery to be received before 30/11/2011, in particular on the mapping of species and habitats.

Aside from the scientific/technical work review completed during the meeting, an example on how visibility and public awareness on the Emerald Network and its setting-up is developed in the country was presented. The presence of particpants from NGOs, the academia and the national authorities was appreciated for capacity building and visibility of the Emerald Network and the project in general.

A field visit to the potential Emerald Site “Padurea Domneasca” Scientific Reserve, close to the Romanian border, followed the working part of the event.
Conclusions/Follow Up 2011 is the final year of implementation of our activities and scientific and technical work from the national Emerald teams are speeding up in order to successfully achieve the project objectives set in each of the seven target countries.

In Moldova, a very solid team under the direct responsibility of the Minsitry of Environmenet and its Biosafety Office is in charge of the activities. The presence of the Deputy Minister of Environment and Natural Ressources Mr Gheorghe Salaru at the event was highly appreciated, thus ensuring the interest and ownnership of the project by the national authorities and their commitment to the Emerald Network.

A discussion was held, as in the rest of the target countries of the current Joint Programme, on how Moldova can complete the objectives set for their country in terms of percentage of the national territory to be covered by the selected potential Emerald sites.
Participants This third national workshop gathered officials from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, the national Emerald team and its leader, staff from various natural reserves, scientific experts from national institutions and universities, representatives of civil society such as IUCN Moldova and the international scientific expert to the Council of Europe Mr. Roekaerts
