Activity Synopsis (ID# 28706) (Hide Synopsis)

Objective(s) Second Round table “Gender equality in higher education” took place in Novi Sad on 11 December 2009. This event has been organized jointly with the Centre for Educational Policy, the Faculty of Philosophy from Novi Sad (host) and with the professors from Nis that had presentations on the topic at the RT held in Nis in November 2008. Participants were representatives of the Novi Sad academia. It was one day event with presentations from the CoE expert professor Lars Jalmert, professor of Education at the Stockholm University and number of local experts – from both Nis and Novi Sad universities. Each presentation was followed by lively discussion. In addition two former female Rectors of the Novi Sad University shared their experience and considerations with participants. Links between gender equality and higher education were the main focus of the workshop and analyzed from different angles.
Output/Results Main aim of the workshop – raising awareness of the gender equality as a cross-cutting issue in different areas and promoting it, was achieved. Round table even had a multiplier effect thanks to the topics discussed and lively discussion that forced participants to look into the gender issue/s from different perspectives, the ones not so obvious at the first sight.
Conclusions/Follow Up Exchange of experience led participant to conclude that network of national gender equality experts should be formed and that first step / action should be preparation of the action plan how to remedy shortcomings detected during debate not only in the area of HE but many other areas as well. It was agreed that conclusions - action lines will be prepared and delivered to the Project team to put them on the web site thus further contributing to the gender equality awareness.
