Title Comprehensive analysis by CoE experts of the probation system introduced in the Republic of Moldova 
Description The process of implementation of the probation legislation will be reinforced through drawing up a comprehensive analysis of the current Law on Probation and submission of corresponding recommendations to the Moldovan government.

The use of alternatives to pre-trial detention and imprisonment, such as bail provisions, will be promoted. Assistance will also be provided in the implementation of the Law on Probation.

Activity Synopsis (ID# 31288) (Hide Synopsis)

Objective(s) Three Council of Europe consultants (representing Greece, Germany and Luxemburg) assess the Moldovan legislation on probation and its institutional framework and produce a report with recommendations for improving the implementation of this institution in Moldova as an alternative to imprisonment. 
Output/Results The experts produced an assessment report in which were described the findings of the visit, was made a legal assessment of the Moldovan Law on probation as to its compliance with the revised Council of Europe Probation Rules and were put forward a number of proposals for improving the legal and institutional framework of the probation service in Moldova and in order to promote the efficient implementation of the said law. 
Conclusions/Follow Up The assessment report was discussed during a round table with national authorities on 4 July 2011 and may, in the nearest future, serve the basis for a separate joint project with the focus on development of the probation system of Moldova. Follow up activities (drafting a new curricula for initial training and of guidelines for different probation procedures) have been envisaged until the end of 2011.
