No Synopsis

Title First meeting of the European NPM Project’s Medical Advisory Panel
Description During their preventive visits to various types of places of deprivation of liberty the National Preventive Mechanisms against Torture (NPMs) run into a host of medical issues. In the context of the ''European NPM Project'' (a branch of the Peer-to-Peer II Project, co-funded by a CoE-EU JP and the HRTF) they have asked to be offered speedy and pragmatic guidance on such issues. In response to that request a Medical Advisory Panel (MAP) will now be set up, composed of a small number of eminent medical experts who have long-standing experience (CPT, SPT, other) in conducting preventive visits to places of deprivation of liberty. The idea is to create a specific branch of the European NPM Project dedicated to medical concerns. The first meeting will be asked to agree on the ''Operational guidelines'' as well as the ''Rules of Procedure'' of the MAP. Future specific activities to be conducted with the help of the MAP will also be discussed (eg NPM workshops on medical issues for the attention of medical experts working for NPMs).
