Activity Synopsis (ID# 32036) (Hide Synopsis)

Objective(s) To examine and discuss with the key decision-makers and legal professionals in Azerbaijan the regulatory framework and institutional system/procedures on effective investigations of ill-treatment complaints and the actions needed for their improvement. 
Output/Results The Country Report on the regulatory framework and institutional system/procedures on effective investigation of ill-treatment complaints was discussed with the key decision-makers and legal professionals in Azerbaijan and implementation of its recommendations in line with European standards and criteria for effectiveness of the investigation of ill-treatment complaints based on the substantive guidance elaborated by the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) and in the case law of the ECtHR was discussed in-depth. The round-table resulted in a comprehesive discussion on the above- mentioned subject and an exchange of experience among the participants. 
Conclusions/Follow Up The access of the authorities to the European standards for improving the above-mentioned areas was provided and their capacity was developed for implementation of the recommendations of the Country Report. The round-table was organised under the Council of Europe/European Union Joint Programme ''Combating ill-treatment and impunity''. The participants stated that they would undertake efforts to implement the recommendations of the report.
