Title World Aware Education Award Ceremony 
Description The WAEA seek to recognise and encourage initiatives which display excellence or innovation in networking, partnership and coordination for increased and improved global education; bring together different actors and institutions (non governmental development organisations, civil society organisations, ministries, local and regional authorities, educational institutions, etc.); seek to make global education a sustained part of education systems, formal and non-formal; assure active participation of young people.

Activity Synopsis (ID# 33052) (Hide Synopsis)

Objective(s) The World Aware Education Award seeks to recognise and encourage projects which promote the practice of global education in formal and non-formal educational settings, displaying excellence in networking, partnership and coordination for increased and improved global education; bringing together different actors and institutions. 
Output/Results The call for the World Aware Education Awards, which deadline was 13 October 2010, resulted in over 30 applications from Afghanistan, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Cameroon, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Netherlands, Nigeria, Pakistan, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Tanzania, Timor, Uganda, United-Kingdom, USA, and international organisations such as BICE, EUROCLIO, and UNOY.
Applications have been submitted to an international jury for assessment.
After deliberation upon suggestions of the jury – Council of Europe confederation of International NGOs; European Youth Forum and Polish Platform of NGDO, Grupa Zagranica The three proposed laureate projects were :
•Africa-Europe National Youth Councils Training Cooperation
•Awareness for Fairness : joint action of public administration & NGO for the advancement of Global Education in Europe
•Education for Rural Livelihoods and Food Sovereignty (ERLAFS) – ERLAFS report
The award ceremony took place in Brussels, the 7th of December, in the framework of the European Development Days and the Global Education Week network seminar.
 
Conclusions/Follow Up The three laureate projects were :
•Africa-Europe National Youth Councils Training Cooperation
•Awareness for Fairness : joint action of public administration & NGO for the advancement of Global Education in Europe
•Education for Rural Livelihoods and Food Sovereignty (ERLAFS) – ERLAFS report
The award ceremony took place in Brussels, the 7th of December, in the framework of the European Development Days and the Global Education Week network seminar.
 
Participants The World Aware Education Award Ceremony took place in the framework of the European Development Days (EDD), at the end of the side-event co-organised by the NSC under the theme “Do Europeans Care about the rest of the World?”, in 7 December from 10.00 to 12.00. The side-event was attended by developemt stakeholders, members of the GEW newtork and of the DARE/DEEEP networks.
