Activity Synopsis (ID# 33247) (Hide Synopsis)

Objective(s) -public presentation and deboates on the draft Law on Police and draft Law on Carabineers for the purpose of assessing their compliance with relevant European and international standards;
- discussing findings and recommendations of Council of Europe experts' assessment of the above mentioned draft laws and ways to reflect them in the final reading of the new laws. 
Output/Results Presentations were made by MAI officials, international experts and NGO members. A thorough discussion, against a clearly defined background of the importance of European standards, took place. Participants engaged fully, in a spirit of openness and co-operation. 
Conclusions/Follow Up The results of the round table are that a consolidated set of proposed amendments will be drafted and sent to the MAI. The round table also led to a heightened dialogue between the MAI and civil society. 
Participants representatives of the Moldovan Ministry of Internal Affairs (including the minister), representatives from other Ministries in the Republic of Moldova, national experts, respresentatives form Moldovan NGO's, OSCE, Norwegian Mission of Rule of Law advisers to Moldova, EUHLPAM, USA embassy, Romanian embassy, International COE experts, COE representatives.
