Title Seminar on fine-tuning the draft Code of Ethics for Prosecutors of the Republic of Moldova 
Description The purpose is to provide recommendations in the process of fine-tuning the concrete wording of the draft new Code of Ethics for Prosecutors, drawn up in the framework of the on-going reform of the PPS.

This assistance has been requested in a letter of the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Moldova of 28.02.2011 and is in line with objectives under Component 1 of the Democracy Support Programme.

A written assessment was provided in May 2011 by the CoE consultant Mr Jorge Dias Duarte, prosecutor, Portugal.

Objective(s) Discussing CoE expert's proposals and fine-tuning the draft new Code of Ethics for Prosecutors of the Republic of Moldova 
Output/Results The seminar was aimed at having an interactive discussion on the particular provisions of the Code of Ethics in the light of the opinions and recommendations submitted to the General Prosecutor’s Office by the Council of Europe expert and at formulating concrete proposals as to the improvement of the Code and bringing it in line with the European standards. Participants made an analysis of the draft Code in an article-by-article manner, paying particular attention to the most important issues of the Code such as ethical principles of prosecutors, disciplinary responsibility of prosecutors, commitment to human rights etc., as well as the inclusion of several provisions which are missing. 
Conclusions/Follow Up The participants agreed on the formulation and amendments of the provisions of the Code, taking into consideration the conclusions to which the participants came during the seminar. It was decided that the present draft Code will be re-formulated before it is presented for adoption to the General Assembly of Prosecutors in September 2011.

The new Code of Ethics for Prosecutors of the Republic of Moldova was approved by decision of the Superior Council of Prosecutors on 04.10.2011
