Title Expert assessment of the draft amendments to justice sector legislation (Law on the status of judges; Law on the Superior Council of Magistrates and Law on judicial organisation) 
Description A working group set up by the MoJ produced draft amendments to important legislation in the justice sector of the Republic of Moldova (Law on the status of judges; Law on the Superior Council of Magistrates and Law on judicial organisation). A round of public consultations has been launched by the MoJ and the CoE has been requested to provide expert assistance.

Activity Synopsis (ID# 33492) (Hide Synopsis)

Objective(s) To carry out an expert assessment of draft amendments proposed to three important laws of the justice sector (Law on the status of judges; Law on the Superior Council of Magistracy and Law on judicial organisation). 
Output/Results Two CoE experts participated in drawing up the assessment of the draft amendments to the Law on the status of judges, Law on the Superior Council of Magistracy and Law on judicial organization of the Republic of Moldova. The experts provided a report assessing the compliance of the proposed amendments with Council of Europe standards and European good practices in setting up an independent and efficient judiciary. The report included also recommendations and proposals for possible improvement of the concerned laws. 
Conclusions/Follow Up On the 17 October 2011 the project organised a round table to discuss and debate on the CoE experts’ opinion on the amendments proposed to the Justice Sector Legislation.
