Title Expert assessment of the draft amendments to the criminal procedure legislation (Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Moldova). 
Description A working group set up by the MoJ produced draft amendments to the criminal procedure legislation. The MoJ has requested from the CoE to provide expert assistance by the way of assessing the mentioned amendments and discussing them for the purpose of improving and making compliant with European standards.

Activity Synopsis (ID# 33632) (Hide Synopsis)

Objective(s) A working group set up by the MoJ produced draft amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code. The MoJ has requested from the CoE to provide expert assistance by the way of assessing the mentioned amendments and discussing them for the purpose of improving and making compliant with European standards. Two experts with good knowledge of penal law evolution in Moldova were contracted to produce two separate experts’ opinions both on the proposed amendments to the existing CPC and to the concept of the CPC as a whole. 
Output/Results The CoE experts provided very detailed opinions and recommendations on the proposed amendments to the existing CPC and to the concept of the CPC as a whole, in order to bring it in line with Council of Europe standards and European good practices in criminal justice field. 
Conclusions/Follow Up The experts’ opinions have been delivered to the interested parties at the end of November and were presented and debated within a round table on 12-13 December 2011.
