Project Purpose 0 - 2014/DG II/JP/3122   Partnership between the European Commission and the Council of Europe in the field of youth
Expected Result 0.3 - Cooperation with a regional focus – promoting young people’s participation through peer learning and capacity-building in specific European and neighbourhood regions: Eastern Europe and South Caucasus, South-East Europe (Western Balkans), South Mediterranean, within the specific themes. Expected results: Visible seminars focusing on cooperation, peer learning and capacity building, involving institutions, researchers, practitioners, youth organisations and policy-makers on topics addressed under the partnership addressing specific issues in a given region. The events should pay attention to building capacities of youth actors across the whole of Europe and in neighbourhood regions.

Activity Synopsis (ID# 42417) (Hide Synopsis)

Objective(s) 1.Take stock of the knowledge on youth and research being carried out by different stakeholders;
2.Identify gaps in research in areas covered by the EU-CoE youth partnership and areas of interest to the partner institutions;
3.Analyse the role of research in the current Euro-Med youth cooperation initiatives and the relevance to policy and practice;
4.Contribute to designing a process of strengthening knowledge networks on youth in the South Mediterranean and connecting them to the PEYR. 
Output/Results The expert meeting reached the following results:
- a better understanding of the situation of young people, youth research and evidence-based policy-making in the South Mediterranean;
-a group of researchers to support future work with thematic or regional focus (e.g. Youth Wiki contributions….);
-a research agenda relevant to the youth field; A proposal for a process of building youth knowledge networks in South Mediterranean in following years;
The meeting contributed to the visibility of EU-CoE youth partnership activities and specific tools available for actors in the region, such as the Arabic version of the youth policy manual. 
Conclusions/Follow Up A policy brief will be drafted identifying:
1. the state of research on youth
2. the link between youth research and policy as well as practice
3. ways to strengthen these links and to support youth research
4. new themes to be explored.

The results of the seminar and the policy brief will serve as a basis for planning the seminar on developing knowledge networks on youth in Eastern Europe and Caucasus and in South East Mediterranean countries. 
Participants 25 policy-makers, youth workers and youth researchers, representing relevant experts and stakeholders from previous activities and existing networks (Euro-Arab Youth Forum, Arab Youth Platform, Mediterranean University on Youth and Global Citizenship, Salto EuroMed, ETF projects in the region and research projects covering youth in South Med region, including Power2Youth, Arab Trans and Sahwa).
