Show Synopsis
Title Restricted Meeting on the History of Interactions within the Mediterranean and between the Mediterranean and Other Cultures and Regions of the World
Description On 27-28 September, the North-South Centre co-organised, together with the History Education Division of the Council of Europe and IRCICA, a working group meeting entitled “The History of Interactions within the Mediterranean and between the Mediterranean and other cultures and regions of the World”. This meeting brought together about 14 historians, history text book writers and education experts, from Europe and the countries of the southern shores of the Mediterranean and surrounding regions, to look at the positive interactions within the Mediterranean as well as between these regions and the Mediterranean. The objective of the meeting was to develop a complementary history teaching material for the Mediterranean, i.e. an ‘educational tool’ around the issues which define and represent the Mediterranean perspectives with a common ground and with experts from Europe and other regions to draw on the positive relations between these regions and the Mediterranean. This universal ‘training kit’ will present the positive interactions which tie the Mediterranean banks together and will lay the basis for the creation of a global and inter-regional network for history teaching.
